UN-Water’s Recommendations for a Global
Goal on Water
UN-Water’s 31 Members from
the United Nations system and 36
international Partners have joint
together in an expert consultation
process to analyze the role of water
in the Post-2015 Development
Agenda based on their experience
and expertise. The outcomes of
the consultation is a consolidated technical advice from
the UN-System to Member States to prioritize water in the
post-2015 development agenda which includes a released
report entitled “Securing Sustainable Water for All” which
sets out their recommendations for a global goal for water
in the context of the post-2015 development agenda. The
general objective of “Securing Sustainable Water for All” is
included in the five targets in the areas of drinking water,
sanitation and hygiene, water resources, water governance,
water-related disasters and wastewater pollution and water
quality, which in turn have elements and indicators. The
UN-Water SDG working group is still active in which the
Cap-Net UNDP Chairperson, Dr. Joakim Harlin is the
working group coordinator and can be contacted at joakim.

The programme was launched during a ceremony in
Louga, in northern Senegal. It will directly affect women,
who are the main users and managers of water and
sanitation in sub-Saharan Africa. The programme will be
regional in scope. More specifically, it will cover Senegal,
Niger and Cameroon, as well as Benin, Liberia, Niger,
Sierra Leone and Togo through ECOWAS, the Economic
Community Of West African States.
