FLEETDRIVE
There is a genuine interest
from the employees within
Telstra to be environmentally
sustainable, and any imitative
like this is well supported
throughout the organisation.
S
teve Ellis is the Fleet Operation’s
Manager at Telstra. Having started
with the company when he was just
a teenager, this year Steve is proud to be
celebrating his 40th anniversary working with
the telecommunications giant.
As Steve puts it working in the fleet industry
provides many daily challenges and obstacles,
but ultimately can be a very rewarding and
exciting career as long as people don’t
“overcomplicate” the role.
How did you first get involved in the fleet
management industry?
I started as an apprentice Fitter and Turner at
Telstra when I was 15, and have never really
looked back. I got a call from a friend of mine
who was involved in Telstra Fleet, there was a
role available. It was a technical role, and given I
have a mechanical engineering background and
a keen interest in cars I seized the opportunity.
I’m currently celebrating my 40th anniversary
with the company and there is a lot of change
going on. At Telstra there are always plenty of
new challenges which is why I’m so happy here.
