I cannot paint elegant pictures of society
With the steady stroke of a brush
I cannot sketch the detailed expressions
Of beloved idols throughout the ages
I cannot create art with my bare hands
I cannot make something tangible out of clay or colors
But I can paint pictures in the minds of others
I can create worlds unknown with simple words
I can recreate the personalities of revered figures
And of characters yet to be discovered, destined to be found
I can spark raw emotion out of nothing more than a sentence
Which can pierce the minds and souls
Of those who wish to let it
I may not be an artist
But I am a writer
And I have the power of a god
I create existence out of nothing but a thought.
The Writer
KAYLA COOPER
Q: Where did your love of writing begin?
A: I've always had love for words, but reading definitely helped spark my passion for writing. Reading helped me see that there is an entire world of people dedicated to crafting nothing into something through words. I've always been drawn to it.
Q: When did you start honing your skills?
A: I started writing for fun at a young age, but I took my writing to the next level when I started writing some of my earliest poetry during my freshmen year. At this point, writing had become an outlet of mine, and through the help of family and friends, I realized I had a talent for it. From then on, I began to save every poem I wrote, edit often, and continue to write everything that came to mind.
