19 EMOT ION This last photo includes motion, movement and emotion. I chose this photo, because the composition is similar to the previous three images and students could replicate it with practice. I took the picture last year at my local Bay Area Derby league track. A skater from the Oakland Outlaws is in motion while the fans congratulate her. The viewer has a path created by the fans on the track. The fans also display emotion. There is black and white and red all over this image which help make it a decent picture. This photo shows that, with practice, their photos can have motion, movement and emotion too. I always seem to be in transition, so I want to believe that transitions are easy, but I know it is not true. As I grow older, I struggle with becoming the old dog who doesn’t learn. I search for excuses to stop experimenting because it would be easy if everything could stay the same. Then I remember the shark and the puppy. The puppy brings enthusiasm to new experiences and the shark must keep moving to survive.” BRYAN FARLEY Farley has a BA in Women’s Studies from the University of California Santa Barbara, a Masters in Educational Technology from Sacramento State, and a few teaching credentials.
