Environmental Claims in Advertising and
Marketing Code
In 2015 the Board considered two complaints
under the AANA Environment Claims
in Advertising and Marketing Code (the
Green Code).
Section 1(i) of the Green Code states
environmental claims:
shall not be misleading or deceptive or be likely to
mislead or deceive.
In 2015 two advertisements were considered
under this Section of the Green Code.

and imagery in this advertisement was not
presenting information in a manner which was
designed to be misleading or deceptive but rather
to inform consumers of new methods that are
making plastics better for the environment. The
Board considered that, in the context of the
testing report provided by the advertiser, the
statements the advertisement contained regarding
the biodegradability of the products are not
misleading or deceptive.
Section 3(i) of the Green Code states that:
Environmental Claims must be able to be
substantiated and verifiable. Supporting
information must include sufficient detail to
allow evaluation of a claim.
