There are always guides available to take you on a biking expedition, and these
are highly recommended if you are just starting out. Take your time, get a feel
for the land, and don’t underestimate your attire. It is important to dress appro-
priately when going for a long ride, as you will be performing a moderate to
high-endurance physical activity and may or may not come into contact with
plants, animals, and other outdoor factors.
Always wear a helmet and protective gear, such as knee and elbow pads. Drink
plenty of water, also! It is best to go with a group of two or more people, even
if you are an experienced cyclist. The “buddy system” is highly encouraged,
and if you are biking off the beaten path or in a park with known predatory
wildlife, it is best to stay on guard and bring protection. Make sure you check
with wildlife management and park websites before you head to the area of
your choice, to ensure that your gear is approved.
