AO: You do all of your own filming and lug your camera equipment by yourself. Can you describe the difficulty in having to be both the cast and the crew simultaneously? LS: It’s a VERY big responsibility – sometimes exhausting – but it is the passion of being a film maker that keeps me setting up good camera angles and going for the extra shot to shoot a moment….and as well I have no one to run things by – to get opinions from – so I have to rely completely on my own instincts to get something that will tell a beautiful or compelling story later. AO: What is worse: harsh weather conditions or lack of natural resources? LS: Harsh weather. AO: If you could have one item available during any given situation, what would that item be and why? Florida’s Fish Hike Boat Bike Kayak Destination LS: A way to start a fire. That is always a need – you can find shelter – food etc. – but without a fire you just don’t feel human. AO: What are some tools that you would advise our readers keep on them when venturing out into the wilderness? LS: A way to start a fire – butane lighter – the ‘torch’ style, a form of water proof roofing i.e. a garbage bag, a good solid knife, a signal device like a whistle or even better a satellite messenger device. AO: For the average outdoorsmen, what skills would be most important to have? LS: Fire starting and navigation.
