AO: Would you say it is harder surviving on your own or with a companion, such as your son whom you’ve filmed with in Survivorman and Son? LS: It is always harder alone. AO: Among your many accomplishments as a writer, producer and director, you are also a musician. What gives you musical inspiration? LS: Nowadays mostly my passion for the wilderness and reconnecting to nature. 66 Summer 2015 Adventure Outdoors AO: In Season One, your scenario in Costa Rica left you with only your multi-tool, swimming goggles, and three ballpoint pens. Can you recall a set of items in your series that posed the biggest challenge in being put to use? LS: Yes – in the Cook Islands I had diving gear – but I really didn’t find it that useful in the grand scheme of things. “Surviving is always harder alone.” -Les Stroud
