FISHING Hot Spots Alaska Alaska offers up some of the best fishing in the world, as the migration patterns for most fish, especially silver salmon, run straight through its waters. For coastal fishing, make your way to Resurrection Bay for an amazingly rewarding catch. Resurrection Bay, located at the head of Seward, Alaska, provides the absolute best area for silver salmon. Lingcod are popular here, too, but those fish are catch-and-release only. Halibut is plentiful as well, but the fish tend to move into deeper waters as the summer season comes to a close, so you’ll have to travel farther out towards the end of the year. During the spring and summer months, enjoy wading through shallow waters just off the shoreline and you’ll have the best of luck in reeling in a prize game fish for dinner. Fishing in Interior Alaska is another favorite pastime for many fishermen and anglers. Fishing enthusiasts should travel to places like the Chena River and Chatanika River for a chance to catch king salmon, sheefish and great arctic graylings. The Graylings, unfortunately, are also catch-and-release only. These rivers are large and run through the better part of Interior Alaska, so guided tours and maps are available year round. The best time to take a trip for some king salmon is between July and September. These consist of eight small bodies of water, all calm and secluded from the civilized world.
