FISHING Hot Spots
Alaska
Alaska offers up some of the best fishing in
the world, as the migration patterns for most
fish, especially silver salmon, run straight
through its waters. For coastal fishing, make
your way to Resurrection Bay for an amazingly rewarding catch.
Resurrection Bay, located at the head of
Seward, Alaska, provides the absolute best
area for silver salmon. Lingcod are popular
here, too, but those fish are catch-and-release
only. Halibut is plentiful as well, but the fish
tend to move into deeper waters as the summer season comes to a close, so you’ll have
to travel farther out towards the end of the
year. During the spring and summer months,
enjoy wading through shallow waters just off
the shoreline and you’ll have the best of luck
in reeling in a prize game fish for dinner.
Fishing in Interior Alaska is another favorite pastime for many fishermen and anglers.
Fishing enthusiasts should travel to places
like the Chena River and Chatanika River
for a chance to catch king salmon, sheefish
and great arctic graylings. The Graylings, unfortunately, are also catch-and-release only.
These rivers are large and run through the
better part of Interior Alaska, so guided tours
and maps are available year round. The best
time to take a trip for some king salmon is between July and September. This is when the
salmon run begins.

For a more primitive experience, try the chain

consist of eight small bodies of water, all calm
and secluded from the civilized world. There are
no established roads or campgrounds, and fishing is
done best with the fly fishing method by wading out
into the still waters. Here, expect to reel i
