H
ank Shaw is an avid hunter, angler,
and experienced cook, skilled in
the particular area of preparing wild
game and foraging for all-natural, raw, and local
ingredients. He lets the seasons guide his grocery
lists, and rarely buys anything packaged from a store,
especially meats. His rugged way of outdoor living
has allowed him to master the art of taming the wild
to produce hearty, homey meals.
Hank worked as a line cook and as a political reporter, writing for a variety of newspapers across the U.S.
He then turned his attention to food and began a
new chapter in his career as a food writer. His work
has been published in numerous magazines, such
as Food & Wine, Field and Stream, Gastronomica,
Pheasants Forever magazine, and a few others. He
has been featured on several television shows, including Andrew Zimmern’s Bizarre Foods America
and Steve Rinella’s Meateater.
Shaw’s blog, Hunter-Angler-Gardener-Cook, is an
all-encompassing online hub for his recipes, tips
– like how to dress game, from squirrels to bears –
and regular updates that he continues to share with
the “honest food” world. Hank Shaw has upped the
ante in the game of waterfowl with the release of his
most recent book, Duck, Duck, Goose, which focuses
on the preparation and consumption of his favorite
birds. With renditions of everything from Buffalo Duck
Wings to Polish-style Goose Sausages, Shaw has
us drooling and hanging onto his every instruction.
