Today , you can visit the site of the Battle of Trenton , via the Trenton Battle Monument . The monument is placed where the Army was positioned for the fight . The monument was erected from 1891-1893 , and stands at 150 feet above the street level . At the very top of the massive granite pillar , stands a bronze statue of George Washington with his hand extended , pointing in the direction in which the Army was to fire . At the bottom of the monument , there are two additional bronze statues , both guarding the entrance . One is a statue of Private John Russell , who became known for being the one that guided the Army across the ice-cold waters of the Delaware River . The other statue is that of Private Blair Mc- Clenachan , who also had a hand in the Battle of Trenton .
Visit the monument and explore the grounds surrounding the commemoration to the soldiers who would not give up , even if it cost them everything . Nearby in several church cemeteries , including the First Presbyterian Church and St . Michael ’ s Episcopal Church , you can actually visit the gravesites of many of the soldiers who lost their lives during the battle , as well as several important figures who took part in the establishment of the thirteen colonies , and even signers of the Declaration of Independence .
