SierraVista, ArIzOnA In Sierra Vista, Arizona, September means summer. Days hover around 75 degrees and endless blue skies melt into starry nights. The grasslands are belly-high green waves and a second annual profusion of wildflowers adds pops of color. Tucked against the Huachuca Mountains at 4,633 feet, Sierra Vista enjoys cool autumn nights. Aspen groves, sycamore, and oak at higher elevations are decking out in autumn gold. Mild temperatures are the norm for Sierra Vista’s winter, with December and January days averaging about 50 degrees. Miles of quiet roads, designated bike lanes, and nearby single-track mountain trails—along with the temperate climate—make Sierra Vista a terrific destination for winter training and getaways from cold northern winters. The Huachuca Mountains reach a soaring 9,465 feet with some pretty steep trails for the hearty hiker, although plenty of gentler trails still rate high with mountain bicyclists and hikers alike.
