Start by coaching yourself to have patience and resilience . You need to be able to remain calm if something doesn ’ t work out the way you planned it to , and also be able to quickly come up with another plan . Don ’ t let anxiety take over your thinking pattern . When you ’ re stuck in a situation where you ’ ve lost nearly all your resources , and / or you don ’ t know where you are , you must remind yourself to breathe . Refrain from fleeing your last known point of origin , unless you absolutely must . Often times , people will panic when they ’ re lost , and run frantically in an unknown direction , and before they know it , they ’ re even more lost than when they started . Take charge of your situation , and remember that there is always hope .
If you ’ re with a group , you may need to step up and become the “ leader ,” especially if you have a stronger will and calmer nature . Some people just can ’ t deal with trauma or anxiety , and they will become distraught and angry in the process . Practice breathing exercises with them and above all , focus on the resolution , not the disaster .
Remember that your will to live is stronger and more useful than any tool or survival item out there .
Even with these tools , some of the most well-trained people do not survive real danger , because they forget how to apply the knowledge they ’ ve learned . They become too focused on the reality that they are in danger in the first place . Never lose hope , never give up . If you train your brain , and use your smarts , you will prevail .
