HOUGHTON LAKE, MI
Tip ups and sleds, skis and skates,
snowshoes and trails, all are a part of
your wintertime outdoor adventure in
Roscommon County, home to Michigan’s Other Great Lakes.
Houghton Lake, Michigan’s largest inland lake, becomes a 20,000 acre ice
playground, typically from December
through the end of February. Shanty
towns and tip ups dot the shallow, frozen landscape as ice fishing for walleye,
pike and perch are a daily occurrence.
To celebrate this winter adventure
Mark Martin hosts an ice fishing school
and the last two weekends of January,
one of Michigan’s longest running winter festivals, Tip Up Town, takes place
on the lake.
