Kids and Teens Exploration Earth Instructor: Mad Science Staff Grades: K – 5 Marvels of Science NEW Instructor: Mad Science Staff Grades: K – 5 NEW Get ready to touch, see, and hear what science is really all about! This course will engage students with fun, interactive and educational hands-on activities that instill a clearer understanding of science and how it affects the world around them. Can you boil water in your bare hand? You will! See what makes water so sticky and take the bubble challenge. Can you build an earthquake-proof building? You’re going to! How do enormous whales float in the water? Why do we need top predators in the wild? All this and more will be discovered!  Take the mystery out of chemistry as you explore polymer crystals & non-Newtonian substances. Diffuse lights and separate colors through chromatography. See how eye-catching illusions can change pictures before your eyes. Change your voice to the sound of a robot or chipmunk. In this course, kids will compete in our favorite sport— Slime Olympics! We will then take an atomic level look at chemical reactions and sort out the corrosive truth about acids and bases. See what makes things glow and investigate what makes things so “sticky”. Melt metal in front of your eyes and float away on a dry ice cloud. This program is a catalyst for fun. Kids in this class will use forensics and their minds to solve the great cookie-caper mystery. We will experience the creepy world of bugs that live all around us. Think mom is just cooking in the kitchen? Kids will be amazed at the science that goes on in there. How do those magicians do their magic?  Kids will discover the science behind it and try it for themselves! Tikkun Olam (Hebrew for “repairing the world”) is the basis for the TOSS program, which is designed to give middle school-aged youth both a social and community service opportunity monthly during the school year. Not only can TOSS participants earn community service hours, but they will also learn the value and meaning of giving back to the community while engaging in a fun social activity to support positive peer relationships. BBYO is teen-led and modeled as a high school fraternity and sorority, including two movements: Aleph Zadik Aleph (AZA) for boys and B’nai Brith Girls (BBG), for girls. Richmond BBYO has two chapters, an AZA chapter (Monarchs AZA) and a BBG chapter (Dr. Abraham Cohen BBG). Richmond BBYO is a part of Eastern Region which includes the communities of the Peninsula and Tidewater in Virginia and all of North Carolina. BBYO members participate in conventions throughout the year in Greensboro, Raleigh and Richmond. Weekly and Sunday afternoon events are held at the Weinstein JCC throughout the year, with varied programs including social, education, recreational activities, community service and Israel programs.
