Aquatics
Our Preschool level classes are designed to help participants achieve maximum success, using the American Red Cross
Learn-to-Swim course layout. The level progression helps swimmers of varying ages and abilities develop their water safety,
survival and swim skills. These are the same levels that are taught in our Camp Ganim swim lesson program.
Preschool level 1: Clams, Preschool level 2: Minnows, Preschool level 3: Sea Turtles.

For first time young swimmers who
are not yet comfortable in the water

for young swimmers who are comfortable in
the water

swimmers who are extremely comfortable in
the water and swimming independently

Level 2 helps children gain greater
independence in their skills and develop
more comfort in and around water. Skills to
be taught include entering and exiting the
water, bobbing, opening eyes underwater and
retrieving submerged objects, front floating,
back gliding and floating, rolling from front to
back and back to front, treading water using
arms and legs, combining arm and leg actions
on front and back, finning arm action on back
and age-appropriate water safety skills. Level 3 helps children start to gain basic
swimming propulsive skills to be comfortable
in and around water. Skills to be taught
include entering the water, fully submerging
and holding breath in the water, bobbing,
rotary breathing, front, jellyfish and tuck
floating, front and back floating or gliding
with recoveries, changing direction of travel
while swimming on front and back, finning
arm action on back and age-appropriate
water safety topics.

Level 1 orients children to the aquatic
environment and helps them gain basic
aquatics skills. These skills include entering
and exiting the water, blowing bubbles
through mouth and nose, submerging mouth,
nose and eyes, opening eyes underwater
and retrieving submerged objects, front and
back gliding, back floating, rolling from front
to back and back to front, treading water,
alternating and simultaneous arm and leg
actions on front and back, combining arm
and leg actions on front and back and age
appropriate water safety skills.
