Learn the prints and patterns of our common neighborhood mammals. If there is snow, we will spend time looking for tracks. If there is no snow, the focus will be searching for other animal evidence like nests, dens, hollow trees, chewed vegetation, and other signs. Instructor: Renae Frigo. Min/Max: 4/10. Bring a picnic lunch or purchase one through a local vendor. Enjoy live music and visit with local “green” organizations to learn about a variety of environmental initiatives. Go on a guided walk, purchase a rain barrel, let the kid’s wander through earthy activity stations, and rent a canoe or kayak to paddle around Lake Ellyn. Sound gross? Most kids truly enjoy this activity that empowers young scientists through inquiry and discovery. The pellets we purchase are from barn owls and come sterilized. Participants will learn about local owls, how they hunt, and why they cough up pellets. They will then use bone charts to determine what type of animal the owl ate. Min/Max: 5/12.
