Dance Our Dance Academy classes and professional, experienced instructors inspire creativity, teach core dance concepts, and give students a strong foundation in quality dance technique and vocabulary. Participants can choose to take seasonal instructional classes or be a part of the annual recital by signing up for a recital class. [JM] Required Attire: Dancers are expected to come to class in appropriate dance attire. No jeans, dresses, sandals or street shoes are allowed. All dancers must wear dance shoes to class. Black jazz shoes are required for jazz/hip hop and theatrical. Black tap shoes are required for all tap and combination classes. Pink ballet shoes are required for all ballet, lyrical and pre-ballet classes. CLASS DESCRIPTIONS A Friendly Reminder With your child’s best interest in mind, we ask that parents and friends do not remain in the room during class time. We ask our instructors to enforce this policy so that your child may devote their attention to the class without outside interruptions. This policy is for safety as well as learning experiences. Your child will learn dance concepts and develop rhythm, coordination, and bal- ance while moving and grooving to music and using creative props to inspire imagination. Parents/guardians are required to stay within the building for the duration of each class, no exceptions. Children must be able to attend class without a parent present. CREATIVE MOVEMENT Your child will learn dance concepts including space, time, body, and movement. This class develops motor skills, balance, cognitive development, creativity, rhythm, musicality and self-esteem. Parents/guardians are required to stay within the building for the duration of each class, no exceptions. PRE-BALLET/TAP & BALLET This class is divided into two units: ballet and tap. Your child will be taught core concepts, age appropriate technique and vocabulary in these two genres of dance. BALLET This class focuses on giving your child a strong foundation for ballet technique. Ballet vocabulary, history, and musicality will be taught. Students will be challenged technically and grow artistically. JAZZ This class is a combination of ballet technique combined with traditional and contemporary jazz movements and style. LYRICAL This class is a combination of ballet and jazz performed through fluid movements characterized by the expression of the dancer’s emotions. TAP This class focuses on giving your child a strong foundation in tap dance technique. Tap vocabulary, history, musicality, and rhythm will be taught. Students will develop rhythm, coordina- tion, and balance. THEATRICAL This class focuses on “performance” based dance. This class is a great way to learn to be more expressive on stage while dancing to songs from great Broadway musicals!
