A Greener
GLEN ELLYN

Park District is working to create a “Greener Glen Ellyn” and how you can help at home!
30 oak saplings were planted at
Ackerman Park in April. Over 40
community volunteers came to assist
with the planting and learned a bit
about the significance of Arbor Day. Paper cups have replaced the
Styrofoam cups at Maryknoll Park
and Sunset Pool. In addition, a
refillable water dispenser was
added at the pool.
In April, the District hosted Earth
Day, a free event featuring guided
walks, student “Earth Art,” and ideas
on sustainable lifestyles. The District offered six different
nature camps this summer where
kids discovered animal habitats, art
in nature, native trees and plants,
and more.
A Native Tree & Shrub Sale is being
offered in the fall, which will enable
many residents the opportunity to
secure plants not normally found at
traditional garden centers. Staff helped organize the local
DuPage River Sweep effort, a
county-wide program coordinated
by The Conservation Foundation to
clean local rivers and waterways.
62
600+ wetland plugs were planted
in low wet areas of Maryknoll Park.
The District partnered with Boxed
Water to eliminate the use of plastic
water bottles at the 2018 Freedom
Four™ & 2K18 for Kids Fun Run.
Electric and Tesla vehicle charging
stations were added at Sunset Pool
and Maryknoll Park, thanks to an
offer from Tesla.
