Boy Scout Resident Camps—Camp Baldwin 13 Boy Scout Resident Camps Summer camp is one of the great highlights for boys in Scouting. Boy Scout Resident Camps serve boys ages 11- 18 (Boy Scouts, Varsity Scouts) who attend resident camp with their local Scouting group and leaders. Resident camps operate Sunday through Saturday. Full-time camp staff, hired to work all season, provide leadership and support to such activities as nature studies, handicrafts, aquatics, horsemanship, oceanography, campcraft (knots, lashings, cooking etc.) shooting sports, field sports and high adventure. All camps have complete food service and maintenance operations. Camp Baldwin – Outstanding High Adventure Summer Camp Camp Baldwin is located in the scenic Mount Hood National Forest near Dufur, Oregon where tall evergreens and plentiful wildlife abound. Blue skies and warm winds on the eastern slope of Mount Hood attract many Scouts, as well as the wide variety of Scout camp activities and high adventure programs. High adventure is a focus at Baldwin. Offerings include horseback riding, mountain biking, rock climbing and rappelling, mountain-boarding, whitewater rafting, and windsurfing. With all these programs, many troops find that they can get more of their older Scouts to go to camp, and help them develop leadership skills by helping younger Scouts in their patrols. Baldwin operates as a Jamboree style cooking camp—Scouts cook most of their meals in the campsite, which supports the camps’ long- standing focus on the Patrol Method prescribed by Baden Powell. Camp staff deliver raw food ingredients twice each day to ensure plenty of fresh, quality food is provided to all campers. Leaders often state that patrol cooking at Baldwin strengthens their patrols and young leaders, and helps them gain teamwork and leadership skills.
