Cub Scout Summer Camp
Cub Scout Overnight Camp: Butte
Creek
Butte Creek Scout Ranch is located 30
miles southeast of Oregon City and 30
miles northeast of Salem in the foothills of
the Cascades. The property is
approximately 640 acres, lying on both
sides of Butte Creek. Butte Creek has
both native cutthroat and rainbow trout
along with a small run of steelhead.
The moment each Cub Scout steps onto Main Street and sets eyes on the
old western town of Butte Creek, he will find it easy to imagine himself as
part of the Old West.
Camp Sessions are 3 days / 2 nights and run from July through mid August.
Scouts and leaders stay in two-person mini adirondacks. Meals are served in
a large full service dining hall.
The “COWBOY UP” program recognizes those Scouts who come back
summer after summer.
Tigers start off as a Cowpoke and become a Buckaroo, Wolves start off as a
Buckaroo and become a Wrangler, Bears start off as Wrangler and
become a Ranger, Webelos I start off a Ranger and become a Sheriff, and
Webelos II start off a Sheriff and become a Marshall. Each age group is
given different challenges and is able to participate in activities specially built
for their level. Each stage wears a different neckerchief to identify them. At
the end of their session, they go through a ceremony to prove they have
mastered the Cowboy Way.
Each day, Scouts receive a visit from the Pony Express who delivers the
mail. Learn to pan for gold, and build your own secrets box. Scouts
participate in the “Hootenanny”, a party on Main Street featuring games, a
moseying contest and a visit from Butte Creek’s very own sheriff. The entire
family is invited to the weekly Street Show where they will take part in an
entertaining walk-through of the history of the American West.
