French Cinema

When we got the task to write film reviews about French cinema, the first film that came to our minds was of course "Amelie". However, our teacher warned us that "Amelie" is a very popular movie and we should perhaps try another movie of the same director- Jean Pierre Jeunet. We learnt that this man has a great story telling talent but as our task was to search cinematography in movies we ended up choosing this great movie 'T.S Spievet...'

The film is about a young kid who loses his brother to a gun accident. It gives him pain and He feels guilty. We learn later that T.S. was with his brother when he shot himself but this remains as a mystery till the end of the movie. However, the story is fun, original and happy. We go on a journey with T.S. He is obsessed with scienceand he wants to get to the Smithsonian to get a science award He's both modest and intelligent

. The audience learns how smart he is when he gets a call from the Smithsonian Institution. We learn that , he has invented an amazing machine to demonstrate perpetual motion. When they invite T.S. to come to Washington,he accepts and never tells his parents. Instead, he starts his journey from Montana to W ashington. And now stars the wonderful cinematography talent of Thomas Hardmeier. It is amazing though we watched this movie in 2D (but we learnt later it is also in 3D.)

The story is told in such incredible focuses. The details and imagery are like from National Geographic magazine pages. This kind of cinematography gives great pleaure to the eyes of the audience and carries the story very well with the help of the music.

There may be a problem about putting the biggest responsibility as the leading actor on this young boy's shoulders. Because sometimes we feel that he lacks the showing of emotions. however you can still say that this comes from the expactation of great acting, story telling, cinematogpahy combined of another Jeunet movie-Amelie.

This movie worths watching with excellent cinematography and its touching story.
