The Anoka-Hennepin School Board met in a virtual meeting in compliance with state law to conduct district business on
Tuesday, May 26.
Recognitions
Monroe Elementary - PLTW (Project Lead the Way) Distinguished School
Amy Oliver, principal of Monroe Elementary School - mathematics, science and children’s engineering, provided an
overview of their selection as a Project Lead the Way (PLTW) Distinguished School. Lisa Silmser, academic support
teacher, Kristin Contons, curriculum integrator, and Chelsea Regan, third grade teacher, were recognized for their
support. Monroe is one of 404 elementary schools across the nation to receive this honor. The PLTW Distinguished
School recognition honors schools committed to increasing student access, engagement, and achievement in their PLTW
programs.
Blaine High School - PLTW (Project Lead the Way) Distinguished School
Jason Paske, principal, presented Jenny Birkmeier, curriculum integrator, who provided an overview of BHS as a PLTW
Distinguished School, the only high school in Minnesota to receive the honor. BHS coordinates the Center for Engineering,
Math and Science (CEMS) program, an in-demand program for students.
Andover High School - MN Department of Education Meritorious Achievement Award
Eric Lehtola, assistant principal/activities director, introduced Andover theatre director Ann Leaf-Johnson who provided
details leading to the naming of Carter Johnson to the Minnesota Department of Education Meritorious Achievement
Award. The distinction is given to highly motivated and self directed students who demonstrate excellence consistent with
the award criteria.
Andover High School - Girls’ Hockey State Champions
Eric Lehtola, assistant principal/activities director, presented Melissa Volk, girls’ hockey head coach and the Minnesota
State High School League (MSHSL) state champion girls hockey team. Ronnie Druk, Sarah Thedens and Shannon Kangas,
serve as girls’ hockey assistant coaches. The title serves as the first-ever team championship for Andover High School.
Employee services
The School Board took actions regarding employees and positions in the district in relation to a reporting timeline needed
to comply with contracts and state requirements. Sarah Kriewall, director of employee services, presented items for
approval and one item for information only. Resolutions were approved with a unanimous vote.
Resolution relating to the termination and non-renewal of teaching contracts of probationary
teachers
The School Board approved the resolution in compliance with Minnesota Statute 122A.40, sub. 5. The action is
considered a routine matter conducted annually by the board.
