The Anoka-Hennepin School Board met in a virtual meeting in compliance with state law to conduct district business on
Monday, June 22.
Recognitions
Coon Rapids High School
Coon Rapids High School students were recognized for high achievement by the School Board in a presentation by Dr.
Annette Ziegler, principal, and Tom Devilice, assistant principal/activities director. Categories included Scholastic Art
competitions, Advanced Placement Scholars and state tournament wrestling accolades.
Employee services
The School Board took actions regarding employees and positions in the district in relation to a reporting timeline needed
to comply with contracts and state requirements. Sarah Kriewall, director of employee services, presented items for
approval. Resolutions were approved with a unanimous vote.
Resolution relating to the termination and non-renewal of teaching contracts of probationary
teachers
The School Board approved the resolution in compliance with Minnesota Statute 122A.40, sub. 5. The action is
considered a routine matter conducted annually by the board.
Proposed resolution to rescind the inclusion of certain teachers’ names in resolution terminating
probationary teachers
The School Board reviewed terms and conditions of the resolution and approved the resolution on a unanimous vote.
Community and government relations
2020 Legislative recap
Al Ickler, executive director of community and government relations, provided an overview of the 2020 legislative session
as they relate to priorities of the Anoka-Hennepin School Board. Despite challenging conditions created through COVID-19,
the legislature passed several key provisions that impact education. Anoka-Hennepin Superintendent David Law testified
on behalf of Reimagine Minnesota, a grassroots effort to address predictable achievement gaps in student groups due to
race or income, and district principals also testified regarding strategies used to “best the odds”.
Anoka-Hennepin’s legislative priorities for 2020 include policy issues with special education programs, maintaining the
current tiered licensure structure, eliminating requirements of compensatory funding for extended day programming, and
supporting sustainable funding in the Safe Schools levy.
2020 Population certification
Al Ickler, executive director of community and government relations, presented a population estimate for Anoka-Hennepin
Schools of 251,675, an increase of over 6,000 from last year. The certification is an important planning number for
