President’s Message
The American College of Oral
and Maxillofacial Surgeons
Surgical Excellence Through Education
Dear Colleagues and Friends,
Welcome to the ACOMS July
newsle er! There’s just
something about late July in the
world of oral surgery that’s
naturally relaxing. By now the
summer rush has hit its pace, the
heavy li ing is almost complete, and one can
already look forward to a slight lull in mid‐August.
Most of us have planned the last vaca on of
summer for around that me. We know that with
September will come a natural point to
professionally “reset” for the next six months. As
always, at ACOMS, we recommend that this is a
great me to begin planning your educa onal
experiences for the next year.
ACOMS is dedicated to helping provide
opportuni es for residents. Our Fourth Annual
Residents Mee ng, November 14‐15 in Philadelphia
is just one example. This outstanding mee ng
features surgical and prac ce management lectures
that are specially tailored to a resident audience,
opportuni es for residents to gain speaking
experience by presen ng an abstract or case report,
and me to meet their peers from across the
country. I highly recommend that each program
consider sending at least one resident to this year’s
mee ng, which we are pleased to offer at a cost of
only $29 to register.
We are planning two hands‐on training courses in
the first quarter of 2016. Each course offers

significantly discounted registra on rates for
residents and outstanding educa on for all OMS: a
Hands‐on TMJ Arthroscopy and Total Joint
Replacement Course is being planned for January,
and our latest cosme c surgery hands‐on course,
Profile‐plasty: Esthe c Surgery of the Nose and Chin,
will take place March 12‐13, 2016 at LSU in New
Orleans.
We recognize that our younger members, residents
and recent graduates, o en face debt from student
loans and new expenses as they enter prac ce for
the first me. ACOMS has two new developments to
address those concerns. We now offer
complimentary membership to recent graduates in
their first year a er residency, and we have
partnered with SoFi to offer a 0.125% rate reduc on
discount on student loan refinancing. Learn more
about both of these new offerings in this month’s
newsle er.
Please stay tuned for detailed informa on about our
upcoming courses, as well as our 37th Annual
Scien fic Conference and Exhibi on, April 9‐12,
2016 at the Ritz‐Carlton San Juan, PR. Like so many
of us, ACOMS is hard at work gearing up for the busy
months ahead. It’s going to be a great year.
Best regards,
Jon D. Perenack, DDS, MD
