Consumers make the decision on where to access healthcare services; therefore, if healthcare providers aim to gain competitiveness, they must understand who is making the purchasing decision and how they do it. Healthcare providers must comprehend the process of consumer decision making and the factors that prompt the consumer to purchase a certain plan, Clarin explained. Clarin continued by saying this will be achieved by being consumer centric. In the middle of Clarin's presentation, he covered the three steps that guide organizations to being consumer centric. The process begins with the leadership who are expected to make strategic pricing decisions, and understand consumer behavior and insights. Second, they should apply that knowledge to solving any major strategic issues. The last step involves understanding that the consumer should be the nucleus of any decision- making process. This involves, ensuring that consumers have access to information, promoting a patient- centered health care experience and offering the relevant products and services to the consumer. Health care providers face problems that can only be solved using consumer insight. First, using consumer insight, the providers are in a position to design and create strategies that allow access and ensure that they remain relevant to their consumers. Second, it helps address the competition suffered from lower priced outpatient services. Additionally, it assists in the designing of detailed and consumer- friendly networks. Lastly, it helps providers identify and relay relevant messages to the relevant market. CLICK TO VIEW EVENT PHOTOS
