JULY/AUGUST | SECTOR FOCUS Screening for big events ADI’s screen rental director Nick Robinson speaks to Access about the company’s tech-heavy summer What types of products have you introduced recently? In preparation for the 2018 season we’ve purchased a significant amount of high resolution modular kit to add to our stock – this will fulfil upcoming events like the Glasgow European Championships. We’ve also increased the size of the iCONIC mobile LED screen fleet, which now sits at 48 screen trucks in total – we’ve built more of our most popular models to meet demand, so we now have ten iCONIC 100s (each screen is 100sqm). What technology are you looking into and why? We’re continually developing new LED screen concepts for the live event market, we like to stay ahead of the curve and offer cutting-edge solutions that wow audiences while bringing value to the client and their commercial partners (for example in the last two years we’ve launched the iCONIC H, iCONIC 120SW, and Epoch 15). We’re working with some of our largest clients on new ideas for their outdoor events for 2019. In partnership with Supponor, ADI we are also pioneering the use of virtual replacement technology in global sport, specifically the digital perimeter installed in football grounds. It’s possible to virtually overlay different brand messaging on the LED display in accordance with a specific broadcast territory, whilst maintaining a dynamic in-venue experience – opening new revenue streams for global advertising rights and brand partnerships. Used across the Bundesliga and seen recently at the FIFA World Cup warm-up between England and Costa Rica at Elland Road, this technology offers huge potential for use in globally televised events of every kind. What technologies do you see emerging into the wider sector? As above! Our Virtual hybrid solution is game- changing technology and we’re looking forward to testing it across a broader range of sports and global events. a more transparent connection to on-site project process. It operates in tandem with a similar app developed for the company’s crew. Both apps link directly and confidentially through individual passwords to Gallowglass’ back office system. “We’re providing the app free of charge to our clients, said Sigsworth, “We’re convinced it will deliver savings through shorter turnaround times and the elimination of confusion and misunderstandings, and we’re certain it’s unique in the crewing industry.” Work began on the app in 2016. It will ultimately be registered with the App Store but is still being developed as a tool that can be quickly modified in response to client suggestions. DOWNLOAD THIS Bleep UK PLC installed a pop- up EPOS and Payments solution throughout the fast service bars and hospitality establishments at the 2018 Download Festival. This was on behalf of Central Fusion, who are the market leaders in festival catering and bar solutions. In total, over 100 Bleep TS-810 EPOS terminals were installed throughout the site, each with built-in receipt printers, laser scanners, customer facing video displays and all directly integrating to an Ingenico payment device for fast and effective card transactions. This was all then linked to Fusion’s own bespoke Web Back Office for full sales reporting and stock control from Bleep’s cloud-based management software. One of the VIP Bars the Bleep pop-up solution was deployed in at this past weekend’s festival The majority of the EPOS terminals were within the bar areas set up across the festival site. The bars catered to a variety of styles, from large-scale, fast service bars, to those in the prestigious VIP areas and others catering to more niche tastes, like real ale and cocktail bars. The install at Download Festival also included 16 EPOS terminals for a pop-up, on-site Co-op retail store for all festival- goers essentials. This mini-supermarket was a brand-new feature for this year, located right in the heart of the festival community, selling a range of food, water, beer, wine and toiletries. 45
