                        Bryn Athyn Historic District Cairnwood Estate Shannon K. Walko, Director T would like to thank the Cairnwood Board of Governors and particularly the volunteers for the countless hours they spend in working with us to keep Cairnwood on target with its mission. his past year was one of transition for Cairnwood Estate. Our much-loved Director, Evelyn Stephens, retired after 9 years in her leadership role. During her tenure, and with the guidance of the Cairnwood Board of Governors, Cairnwood emerged as a respected historic house museum and has become one of the premier event locations in the Philadelphia area. We are deeply grateful for her years of dedicated service to this Historic Landmark property. A host of steadfast employees and volunteers continue to work to preserve Cairnwood through events, fundraising, academic programs, and tour revenue, while carefully managing operation costs. The ever growing historic programs have been managed by Lisa Parker-Adams, Director of History & Education. Events, sales and operations have been managed by Shannon Walko, with support from Melissa Arrimour, Cairnwood Operations Manager. A new Visitor Services Coordinator position was created to assist guests throughout their visit in the Bryn Athyn Historic District and to provide a gracious and hospitable presence located at the Garden House front desk. The staff Revenue Productions Private rentals of Cairnwood continued to be positive. Over 200 scheduled events were hosted at the estate from July 2012 through June 2013, including: 125 weddings, 36 private events, 24 rehearsals, a fundraising gala, photo-shoots and Garden House rentals. The past year was the first in which Cairnwood operated without financial support from the Glencairn Endowment. Expenses for maintenance, operations, personnel, Academy shared service allocations, and contributions to the Historic District and Bryn Athyn borough totaled $856,167 for the year. The estate finished out the year with gross revenue of $1,115,602 and a net surplus of $122,811 after depreciation. Net proceeds will fund upcoming capital improvements including exterior painting, updates to the security system, renovation of the downstairs men’s restroom, repairing the library ceiling 87
