UNDERGRADUATE STUDIES

The First-Year Seminar Program (FYS) pilot is underway now!

Dr. Shari Berkowitz who teaches “False memories and the Law”, a First-Year Seminar course expressed, “I love teaching my UNV 101 course! I feel so lucky to have the opportunity to meet, teach, and mentor our freshmen students. I recognize that starting college comes with a rush of emotions and experiences, and I hope that as students embark on their education that they will feel comfortable coming to me during the semester and afterwards to ask questions, seek guidance, etc. Personally, my college experience was forever shaped by learning from and spending time with my faculty mentor, and I can only hope to provide that same mentorship to my students. I realize that the semester is not over yet, but teaching this course has already been one of the most rewarding experiences I have ever had at CSUDH!”

The First-Year “Dream” Seminar is an exciting program which reimagines UNV 101 featuring discipline-specific courses designed by faculty expressly for first-year students, is poised to become one of the campus’s signature student success initiatives. Ariana Martinez is enrolled in The Economics of Discrimination, a First-Year Seminar with Dr. Jose Martinez. Ariana, majoring in Psychology, recommends this class to others and says, “This class has opened my eyes to many of the resources the school offers in order to help with assignments.”
