Dr. Jose Martinez teaches UNV 101 Economics of Discrimination (fall 2015) shares, “It has been the norm as Economics’ instructors to just follow the outline already established in the textbook, which does not offer enough room to explore outside the course structure. When I require a book, I make sure that I use it for the class 100% of the time, because I know it is a great expense for my students. Having an open source textbook, it’s freeing for me because I do not have that constraint any longer. I’m free to develop a new class structure using supplemental course content from multiple resources and incorporate them as it seems fit.

Naomi Moy and her assistant Karen Clemons passionately research what can they offer to faculty free of charge and have put together quite an extensive list of e-books. Currently over 700 resources of required textbooks by faculty are available at the Library AL$ Resources for Faculty. Faculty are helping their students save money!

Mr. Richard Propster joined the AL$ program spring 2014. During the fall 2015 semester he teaches HRM 425 – Seminar in Strategic Human Resources Management. This is a capstone class for a Business Degree with emphasis in Human Resources. Most of his students are graduating seniors poised to enter the job market. His estimated enrollment is typically 24-35 students. Mr. Propster explains, “The main text I use is available through the students’ Library account with a liberal ability to print pages of value to them. We also use an array of timely articles from professional journals (e.g. Harvard Business Review) by providing links to free copies through Library accounts. The estimated cost savings per student is at least $200.”
