Roger Green, “The Family Nurse Practitioner (FNP) program at California State University, Dominguez Hills”, ($80,000 over two years 2015-2017). The Family Nurse Practitioner (FNP) program at California State University, Dominguez Hills has been transforming healthcare to serve the needs of culturally diverse communities. We do this by allowing participants to live in their communities and to do their clinical placements in their local areas. Due to our dynamic mission of providing excellent educational opportunities, the program uses a hybrid model that is on-site and online, with focused visits to the campus; using innovation and the latest technology, to transform healthcare to serve the needs of culturally diverse communities.

GRADUATE STUDIES & RESEARCH

“Apply as many grants as possible. Start with the internal grants that will help you prepare for the external grants.”

- Fang Wang, Ph.D.

April 2015 the zebrafish system was just installed.

Dr. Wang's research students from left to right are: Stacy Nguyen, Denise M. Tobar, Renee Rousselle, Maricruz Macz De La Torre, and Jueun Kim.

Dr. Fang Wang’s research involves the study of zebrafish for the identification of genes involved in interactions of touch-sensing neurons and skin. Dr. Wang is an assistant professor in the CSUDH Department of Biology and can be credited for the resumption of animal research on campus with the installation of her zebrafish lab at the start of the 2015-2016 academic year. Her $15,000 CSUPERB (CSU Program for Education and Research in Biotechnology) grant study will reveal genes that are important for the development and function of somatosensory neurons, these being likely relevant to various diseases. The information obtained from this project can pave the way for further functional analyses on these genes.
