Message from Rev. David Beckmann
President, Bread for the World and Bread for the World Institute
Bread for the World’s 40th anniversary is an opportunity for all of us to give thanks to God for the amazing
progress that has been achieved toward our goal of
ending hunger. The lives of millions of children have
been saved from starvation and malnutrition, partly as
the result of our persistent advocacy.

Our anniversary celebration is also a tribute to Art
Simon as well as to all of the other “founders” who were
sought out and enlisted by Art in those early years.
During the 23 years I’ve been privileged to serve as
president, Art’s advice and involvement have been both
influential and inspiring.
We are able to celebrate these 40 years because of
the remarkable generosity and faithful advocacy of thousands of churches and tens of
thousands of individuals. This outpouring of gifts has enabled Bread for the World to be
persistent and increasingly influential in urging our nation’s decision
makers to end hunger.
Today, we rededicate ourselves to
this important work, confident that
God’s grace in Jesus Christ gives us
strength and hope to continue to be
a part of God’s great work of liberating hungry people.
