Bread fought the House of Representatives’ proposal to cut $3.5 trillion over ten years from programs vital to hungry and poor people. By 2013, only less than $50 billion was cut. Bread won a five-year extension of the earned income tax credit and the child tax credit. EITC alone benefits more than 13 million low-income working families. 2011 2012 2010 Bread’s second president, Rev. David Beckmann, was awarded the World Food Prize.
