by the stunning property . It ’ s not uncommon to be strolling around the property when something shiny catches the eye and you realise you ’ ve uncovered more history in the form of antiquities , broken china or even decades-old horse shoes from the property ’ s polo days of old . Sit down with a warm cup of tea or coffee and a light bite to eat then continue north through the Midlands . Very different to Shene is World Heritage listed Brickendon Estate . While Shene was owned by gentry , Brickendon is an original convict working farm and is still , 7 generations on , owned and operated by the Archer family . The stunning grounds are reminiscent of a quaint English garden with ducks and geese waddling their way around the original timber barns and cottages . You ’ ll take a guided stroll with one of the Archer family around the property including the magnificent gardens that Angela Archer has been tending for the last 30 years . You ’ ll stay for the next two nights at Quamby Estate , an iconic country manor situated on 150 acres of picture perfect landscape . The estate dates back to 1828 and was formerly the ancestral home of Tasmania ’ s first local born Premier , Sir Richard Dry . At Quamby , the elegance lets you know you ’ re staying at one of Tasmania ’ s most prestigious properties and blends old world charm with modern touches . Quamby has rediscovered the lost art of picnics ! On arrival , grab a picnic blanket and a basket full of goodies and take yourself off to a private patch of paradise with nothing between you and your partner but countryside . Just magic ! This afternoon you may like to wander around the property , play a game of tennis or even grab a bicycle and take a ride down the surrounding country lanes . Hotel : Quamby Estate , Launceston , 2 nights . B L D
Day 5 : Meander Valley Today ’ s journey will take you through the Meander Valley , known for its produce and farm gate sellers . You ’ ll visit Christmas Hills Raspberry Farm to enjoy a morning tea featuring the farm ’ s fresh raspberry creations , then 41 ° South Salmon & Ginseng Farm where you ’ ll join the Pyka family to hear how they came to be salmon farmers when they arrived in Australia from Germany . Take a wander through their property to learn a little about aquaculture and feed the salmon that have been reared in cold pristine waters sourced from Montana Falls . Before you leave , you must try the fresh smoked salmon . Next it ’ s off to a little town called Railton , known as the Town of Topiary , to visit Willie Simpson and Catherine Stark at their micro brewery . Enjoy a guided tour through their Seven Sheds Brewery and hop garden and hear how they use fresh local produce to create great flavors in the beer brewed on site . Before you leave you can taste their craft creations on tap in the tasting room . Back at Quamby Estate , tonight you ’ ll sit down to a special Hunter and Gatherer dinner crafted by the estate ’ s Executive Chef to highlight the surrounding local produce . B HD
