Day 1 : Welcome to Christchurch Upon arrival in Christchurch , spend some time at leisure to relax or explore on your own . Day 8 : Milford Sound – Stewart Island Board the Southern Discoveries for a breakfast cruise on Milford Sound , before departing for Stewart island . This afternoon it ’ s on to the southernmost city in New Zealand , Invercargill . Board a ferry at Bluff and cruise to Stewart Island . With its clear , clean waters , lush rainforest , flora and fauna and unspoilt natural beauty , you ’ ll get a glimpse of an enviable slower lifestyle .
