Sister Cities of Delray Beach Receives Funding from Sister Cities International to Send Four Community Members to Miyazu, Japan 'HOUD\ %HDFK ZDV RQH RI YH 86 FLWLHV selected by Sister Cities International to implement exchanges with their sister city Miyazu, Japan. Leading Asia: Renewing the U.S. and Japan Sister Cities Network is a program of Sister Cities International funded by the Japan Foundation Center for Global Partnership. Leading Asia: Renewing the U.S. and Japan Sister Cities Network will increase institutional knowledge of U.S.-Japan sister city partnerships by providing opportunities for current programs throughout the United States and Japan to become more active or implement new and innovative program- ming, as well as for new sister city relation- ships to be established. The cutting-edge program will include conferences, exchang- es, and research to promote networking, capacity building, and innovative program development. For 2011 exchanges, selected U.S. cities will receive an average of $8,400 to support exchange and administration costs. Delray Beach has had a Sister City relationship with Miyazu since 1977. The re- lationship was established to honor George Morikami for his donation of the land that was to become the Morikami Museum and Japanese Gardens. Mr. Morikami was born in Miyazu. Delray Beach currently carries on a high school student exchange with Miyazu. Since 1982, the Chorale continues to attract talented and dedi- cated volunteer singers with solid musical backgrounds performing choral concerts of the Great Masterworks of classical composers. The 65 member ensemble performs for the community, and, ad- ditionally provides educational oppor- tunities for local high school students as well as scholarships to musically gifted college students. It is because of the DBC commitment to the community that it has grown to be considered one of the best community based choruses in all of South Florida. The Delray Beach Chorale is seeking singers for the 2011-2012 season and will be holding auditions Tuesday September 6. Musical sight reading ability desired.
