What does this character look like?

He is thin and tall, towards the end he seems to be very old and weak, yet still with the slender look.

How could this character's personality be described?

Rahim kahn is a very understanding and wise man, he tends to have people's best intrests at heart at all times, which is demonstrated through his relationship with Amir.

Rahim is also a very loyal man, and example of his loyalty and understanding is him knowing about Amir not helping Hassan in the alley but still not telling anyone or displaying his own views and opinions towards the incident. another example of his loyalty is keeping the secret of Baba being the father of Hassan away from Amir all the years he knew him because Baba did not want him to know. A demonstration of how wise and knowledgable Rahim is would be through giving Amir the request to save Sohrab, knowing it would free his sins.

rahim kahn appears in the very first chapter and is one of the very first characters to be introduced. Rahim is mentioned in nearly all chapters apart from the ones covering the life in america and some chapters towards the end after he has left his note.

What are the key events in which this character is involved?

Rahim Kahn plays a frequent role as Babas friend throughout the story and is commonly mentioned untill the book starts to show Amir and Baba living their life in America. Rahim kahn then comes back into story towards the end of the book playing a major role leading to Amir going back to kabul to get Sohrab.

Rahim Kahn is Baba's closest friend and is nearly always round Baba's house. He also has a close relationship and understanding with Amir. Throughout the book he plays a fatherly figure to him, which can be exemplified through his actions and how he encourages Amir's writing. Rahim Kahn also had a good relationship with Hassan when he was younger and the relationship becomes stronger after Baba leaves his house to Rahim Kahn and Hassan comes back to live with him. Because Rahim Kahn lived with Hassan and his family he also developed relationships with with Sofia, sanaubar and in particular, Sohrab. There is also mention of a woman he was once in love with, a Hazara.

Rahim kahn does not use regular phrases because of the nature of his character. Rahim looks over everything that happens and has an overview and conclusion of it. This touches back on the point of him being such a wise man. Rahim khan also uses the religious words such as `Inshallah`. Also one of the most comman Afgan word he uses is `Tashukar`. He uses complex sentence structures and academic vocabulary.

Rahim Kahn is mostly associated with figurative language, such as metaphors. This helps to contribute to his wise and philosophical image and how for him, not everything is black and white.
