ABC BLOCK & BRICK helps create many of the buildings you
see each day. From schools and hospitals to Razorback Stadium,
they’re all built with concrete blocks, pavers, brick and retaining
walls supplied by the company. ABC Block & Brick’s clients
include architects, engineers, landscape contractors, masons and
homeowners.
ABC Block & Brick began in Little Rock in 1993 with one block
producing plant. Since then, it has grown to 12 locations, including
nine manufacturing facilities, across two states. As the company
continues to grow, it needs people who can make, sell and deliver
its products across the region. Careers at ABC Block & Brick
include sales, manufacturing and drivers.
ABC Block & Brick takes pride in its quality products and values
hard work. The company has built a family atmosphere focused
on taking care of its team, whether it’s someone who’s been sick
or is just having a tough time. ABC Block & Brick wants to help its
people to succeed.
Travis Wood is one team
member who found success at
ABC Block & Brick. He’s been
with the company for 19 years.
“I started right out of high
school,” he recalls. “I was hired
in the plant, and my job was to
pull blocks off the line if they had
something wrong with them. It
wasn’t glamorous, but it taught
me what I needed to move up.”
Wood has now been a plant
manager for more than eight years and takes pride in what he
does. “When my wife and I are driving through town, I like that I
can point out all the buildings I made blocks for and contributed
to.” He says taking pride in what you do and having a good work
ethic are important qualities for anyone who works at ABC Block
& Brick.
“If you hav
e t
you what yo he right attitude, we’ll
u need to k
teach
now.”
While the company hopes team members build long-term careers
at ABC Block & Brick, you’ll also learn skills that could open even
more doors in your future.
“You learn about plumbing, electrical, masonry, and how to
operate equipment like forklifts and front-end loaders,” says
Wood. “Those skills can set you up to have a career in construction
or even have your own business someday,” he explains.
How far you can go with ABC Block & Brick depends on you. For
example, a truck driver could be promoted to a job in dispatch,
where they’ll also handle office operations and interact with
customers. A member of the
sales team could move up to
sales manager. It all comes
down to attitude. “If you have
the right attitude, we’ll teach you
what you need to know,” says
Wood.
To get started at ABC Block &
Brick, you must be 18 years

“I was brought up believing that whatever you do, give it your
best. We don’t settle for good enough,” he explains. In return,
Wood says that effort pays off by helping advance your career.
“You can move up quickly and earn good money while you do it,”
he says. “A lot of people come here and it’s their first job. You do
need to be willing to put in a day’s work, show up on time and be
reliable. But we all work together here and depend on each other.
I’ve even had the owners of the company come in the plant and
work with me,” says Wood.
