BUTTERFIELD TRAIL VILLAGE, a premiere retirement community in
Fayetteville, has a team of 225 people who provide a full continuum
of care to more than 420 residents. Team members help retirees
enjoy many levels of care ranging from independent living to skilled
nursing.
The non-profit Village has career options to match many interests.
Being a nurse or certified nursing assistant (CNA) could help you
build a future in healthcare. Dining services and housekeeping may
appeal to people considering a career in culinary arts or hospitality,
and the maintenance team offers careers for people interested in
skilled trades.
Heather Ross started her career journey at Butterfield Trail Village
in the housekeeping department shortly after she graduated from
Fayetteville High School. “All my friends were planning to go to
college, but I wasn’t sure what I wanted to do and decided to take
a gap year,” she explains. Her father, who also works at Butterfield
Trail Village, told her about a job opening. Ross applied and was
hired to clean the Village’s common areas and residents’ homes. She
says she knew she made the right choice.
“Butterfield Trail Village is really the best thing that’s happened to
me,” she explains. “It has given me the opportunity to have my own
apartment and learn what I want to do. I really enjoy getting to
know the residents – they’re all wonderful people.”
Butterfield Trail Village helped Ross take the next step in her career
by sponsoring her CNA training. She continued working while
taking evening classes and has more goals for her future. “I want
to attend nursing school eventually,” Ross says. “It can be easy to
become complacent, but you should always take the initiative to
better yourself.”
Josh Sanderson works in the maintenance department. The
Farmington graduate started more than five years ago in an
entry-level position, but he knew he could do much more. “I felt I
was motivated to keep learning more and doing new things and
became interested in HVAC,” he recalls. A co-worker mentored him
and taught him about how heating, air conditioning and ventilation
systems work. “My supervisor saw I was ready to take on more

responsibility, and I moved up when a position became available,”
Sanderson explains.
Butterfield Trail Village gives Sanderson the ability to plan for the
next phase in his career. “I’m interested in either flight school, or
finishing my EMT training and working for a fire department,” he
says. “Butterfield Trail Village has been flexible and willing to work
with me when it comes to school.”
Sanderson says that no matter what career you choose at Butterfield
Trail Village, you need to have the right attitude. “I really work
to build and maintain relationships with the residents,” he says.
“Everything we do here is about them.”
That mindset is part of a community atmosphere that’s focused on
the residents. “We’re full of neighbors who make you feel at home
and team players that make work feel like family,” says Melinda
Silva, Butterfield Trail Village’s marketing director. “We’re looking for
caring people who have a passion for working with seniors in this
type of environment,” she adds.
A career at Butterfield Trail Village can be rewarding both
personally and professionally. “You really get to know the residents
and develop a relationship with them and their families over the
years,” Silva explains.
Butterfield Trail Village offers generous benefits including health,
dental, vision and disability insurance, paid time off and a retirement
savings plan. Employees can continue their education through
scholarships that may pay up to $1,500 a year for courses related
to your job. There’s also an employee appreciation committee that
recognizes the team with parties and other special events throughout
the year.
