The first time I was ever at Hawn State Park was 36 years ago (!) when I was a Junior in Nursing school in Kansas City. I took the Amtrak train in to Kirkwood and my then boyfriend, Bob, picked me up in his Green Ford Pickup Truck to go camping. We were headed to the Whispering Pines Trail at Hawn State Park. It was November and cold and I remember thinking how beautiful the trail was along the shut ins. We camped and that evening Bob proposed to me. The next morning we woke up to about 6 inches of snow and hiked out in a winter wonderland. We have returned many times and in many different seasons and it is always beautiful!
