Currently Fred and Duke have walked this pond 1,661 days STRAIGHT!! Never missing a day!  Rain, sleet, snow, wind, heat…it doesn’t matter to Fred and Duke, they are walking around that pond.  They know every inch of the pond.  And Fred has some very astute observations about the ducks and animals who live on the pond and the fishermen who come to catch the big one.   Fred, in a very small amount of time, touched my heart with his generosity, listening ear and daily smile!  And Duke had his own form of constant love for me that I can’t put into words!  Fred has become much more to me than just a fellow pond walker in our community with a terrific heart.  He’s shown me there are still wonderful people in this world and when you lose your earbuds and actually listen, you just might learn a little something and gain a l iving angel in life. Before he retired, Fred was Director of Serenity Hospice Care for a little over 15 years. He worked for the State of Missouri for about 30 years ending as Director of the Division of Psychiatric Services.  Prior to that he was a Superintendent of Southeast MO Mental Health Center/Farmington State Hospital for 12 years and before that Director of the State Division of Youth Services for 5 years.  Wow, what a career I’d say.
