New restrictions on bikes for 'A' license tests will come into force from 1st January 2019

DVLA 'A" LICENSE CHANGES

From 1st January 2019 the rules for takign your 'A' license test are changign so you might want to bring that plan forward if you were waiting for the New Year.

At the moment the restriction on bikes states that you can use any bike that has a capacity of at least 595cc and total power output of 5hbhp (40kW).

From January that will be changing. The new rules put further restriction on the bikes you can use for your test.

From 1st January the bike must have a total power output of at least 67bhp (50kW) and a kerb weight of at least 180kg.

Bikes falling outside of these specifications will no longer be accepted for license tests.

If you're not sure if your bike qualifies have a look in your bike's manual and find the specification page.

There you will find the total power output and kerb weight. if it is over 180kg and and 67bhp you're fine otherwise you should consider bringing your test forward to avoid having to find or buy another bike for the test.
