Who in your opinion are the best riders you have been locking horns and elbows with this year, not only on the track but the way they were off track?

The two Js, Jodie and Jimmy. Both inch perfect every lap and as hard as bloody nails. Off track I have been mates with Jimmy for the last 40 years. Team Jodie off track needs no words as Garfield has enough for us all LOL.

When you were growing up, were motorcycles prevalent in your early years, and did you have any racing heroes?

Always have had bikes, got my first bike aged 4. I can still remember going to Selkirk to collect it and I still have it in the garage. Blind and with only one hand, my Dad had some of the the fastest racing Norton’s in the country during the 50s, 60s and 70s. My brother Douglas, Dick Irwin and I all had a great deal of success riding for him all winning Scottish Championships. No heroes, but full of admiration for what Sheene, Roberts and Agostini achieved on track.

What are you looking forward to most for the new national class of racing in 2018?

Currently living in Hampshire it is the best part of a thousand mile round trip but I’m going to make as many rounds as I can. The 500 class will bring fresh blood into Scottish Road Racing as financially it’s much more achievable.

If your house was burning itself to the ground, what material possession would you run back in and retrieve?

The Nortons!
