with the aim of completing the week with the best score possible.

Allan:

"It's a long week at the 6 days and you often don't really get onto your rhythm until the first day or two are out of the way.

"At those times its important to focus on each stage one at a time so you take it step-by-step and not stress about the week ahead..

"It's very easy for a slight loss of focus to cause an accident and break the bike or have an injury that halts your week so the newer riders have to remember to pace themselves and not try to ride beyond their abilities.

"You have to use your head and take it sensible, it's going to be a huge effort but it can be done.

"I really think that taking part on the SSDT is a privilege and everyone should take something away from it. You can learn a lot about yourself when you compete there because it will test you physically and mentally and more often than not it's the mental side that sees riders drop away.

"The days of bikes being unreliable are past and with the modern bikes unless you really abuse them they're going to keep going. You just have to make sure you keep yourself going with a level head and not go charging into sections or across the moors recklessly.

"I'm really looking forward to the week in Fort William and the added challenge of assisting another rider around and it's great that 56'N will be providing the full sponsorship because that is something you just don't see there any more.

"In the 80's the sport was massive and sponsors flocked in to support riders but, like in a lot of sports, that has reduced over the years and riders have had to pay their own way which isn't always feasible."

We're all looking forward to the SSDT and will bring you more news about the team next month.
