One of his key areas of expertise is energy and environmental taxation, including energy transportation duties. Garcia’s clients include Galp Group and REN Group. Notable recent work included advising EDP Group and Voltalia Group on wind and solar power taxation. Garcia was among the partners negotiating the firm’s accession agreement to Andersen Global, the international network established by Andersen Tax, a company founded by former Arthur Andersen partners. Garcia was part of a three-partner team that negotiated and signed a strategic partnership agreement with Spanish law firm Olleros Abogados, an association that operated under the name of ‘Olleros Nobre Guedes’ prior to the accession of both firms to Andersen Global. This accession agreement with Andersen Global combined with the strategic partnership agreement signed in 2016 with Olleros Abogados enabled Nobre Guedes, Mota Soares & Associados to provide worldwide services to clients, Garcia says. New skill set Garcia leads a five-strong tax team, as well as being one of two partners with financial and promotional responsibilities at the firm. He says one of his biggest challenges is adjusting to a new role at a global firm, which involves having a different skill set including leadership and management expertise. It is a role that requires greater involvement in the business and strategic elements of a law firm. “It is demanding for someone under 40,” Garcia says.“It causes us to grow up fast – it is a step further in my career and life that I never expected.” Garcia says it is important to be part of a strong team as it is crucial to be able to rely on colleagues because, in addition to monitoring the Portuguese market, it is also necessary to keep up-to-date with global tax developments. www.iberianlawyer.com
