LCSD...Imagine the Possibilities
Winter weather in Mississippi can certainly be unpredictable, as we were re-
cently reminded. One day we may have warm, spring like temperatures and the
next day a frigid, arctic blast. When threats of inclement weather arise, deci-
sions concerning opening or closing school are not made lightly, but rather
based on input from the Lauderdale County Emergency Management Associa-
tion (LEMA), other education leaders, and local professionals. Lauderdale
County School District geographically serves a large area, which requires school
buses to travel on all type of road conditions. Whenever I am faced with mak-
ing this sometimes difIicult call, please be mindful I will always err on the side
of caution when it comes to student safety. When there is any change in the
school schedule, we will notify you through social media, local television out-
lets, and through the LCSD automated call feature.
The winter months also bring cold and Ilu season. Although school attendance
is of the utmost importance to academic success, when students are sick, they
need to be home. The Centers for Disease Control recognizes the best way to

prevent seasonal Ilu is to get vaccinated, but other good health
habits can also help stop the spread of germs, such as avoiding close contact,
covering your nose and mouth when coughing or sneezing with a bent arm,
washing your hands often with soap and water, avoid touching your eyes, nose, or mouth, getting plenty of sleep, mak-
ing healthy food choices, and drinking plenty of Iluids. It is also equally important to routinely clean frequently
touched objects and surfaces, such as doorknobs, keyboards, desks, etc. Again, when students are sick, stay home. It
is the policy of Lauderdale County School District that students must be fever free for 24 hours without the use of fe-
ver reducing medications before returning to school. In addition, it is critical for parents to ensure the school has ac-
curate contact information in the event a student becomes sick at school.

of Communications, launched this new site as a means to help our students and parents to consider a variety of ca-
reer options and what it takes to make the dream a reality. From now to the end of school, each day a local profes-
sional will give a testimonial of their path to success and how others can follow in their footsteps. Think of it as a Lau-
derdale County School District career fair at your Iingertips. If you have not visited this site, I encourage you to do so
and subscribe, as we seek to expand our reach throughout our own community and beyond. We would like to thank
