LCSD Recognized for Achievements
Great things are happening in the Lauderdale County School District. During
the month of February our district has been recognized for three accomplish-
ments. First, on February 20, the district received the Lighthouse Award
from the Mississippi School Board Association. This award recognizes dis-
tricts across the state for achieving a “B” level rating. Next, our four middle
schools were recognized in an awards luncheon on Monday, February 25, as
a “Value-Added” school for their Algebra I scores last spring. The Program of
Research and Evaluation for Public Schools (PREPS, Inc.) recognizes high per-
forming schools annually for performing significantly better than other schools
with comparable socioeconomic circumstances. Congratulations to Clarkdale
Middle, Northeast Middle, Southeast Middle, and West Lauderdale Middle Alge-
bra I teachers and students. Finally, the Lauderdale County School District, in
collaboration with Meridian Community College, was honored to receive the
prestigious Governor’s Award from the Mississippi Association of Partners
Dr. John-Mark Cain, Superintendent
in Education (MAPIE) for our C 3 Ready: College, Career, Community
partnership on Tuesday, February 26. MAPIE recognizes top school-community partnership programs across
the state. We are proud of the work we have done and look forward to continued success as we partner with Me-
ridian Community College in our collaborative workforce development endeavors. To learn more, please visit

Over the last couple of months, the Lauderdale County School Board has visited each of our community schools.
Board Members were able to see \irst hand the condition of our facilities and the passion of our administrators
and teachers for ensuring all students achieve at high levels. These visits were critical as we begin the Strategic
Planning process in the coming weeks. As we seek to develop a shared mission, vision, values, and goals, involve-
ment of all stakeholders will be key. This process will be a critical component to the continued success of our
school district and community, as the strategic planning process seeks to articulate organizational priorities and
stakeholder values; align workforce and resources to the strategic goals and objectives; increase stakeholder
commitment to a common vision; provide a communication vehicle to inform stakeholders about district initia-
tives; and effectively and authentically engage all employees and stakeholders. This process allows us to focus
our attention to establishing a set of principles, which will guide our future decisions as it relates to programs,
partnerships, and the direction of the Lauderdale County School District.
In closing, I want to take this opportunity to recognize our Lauderdale County School District Teacher of the
Year, Krileshia Boyd. Mrs. Boyd, a third grade teacher at Northeast Elementary, has been named as the Missis-
sippi Congressional District 3 winner in the state Teacher of the Year Program. She will now compete with the
other three \inalists for Mississippi’s 2019 Teacher of the Year. We are so proud of her and the commitment to
student success she demonstrates daily.
