WLHS Senior Selected as
QuestBridge Scholar
Gabriel Broome, a West Lauderdale High School
senior, has been selected as a QuestBridge
Scholar. The non-profit QuestBridge program is
designed to match high-achieving, low-income stu-
dents with top colleges. Their mission is to re-
move the financial barrier these students face so
they can benefit from the education and benefits
that come from a degree from one of the country’s
best schools. The QuestBridge mission statement
says that by working to match these students in
need with elite institutions of higher learning, they
“[aim] to increase the percentage of talented low-
income students attending the nation's best univer-
sities and the ranks of national leadership itself.”
Students who are selected as QuestBridge Scholars may then apply for free to up
to twelve of the program’s college partners through the National College Match
portion of the program. Broome, also a National Merit Semifinalist, was matched
with Yale University and will attend on a full scholarship starting in Fall 2019.
