Junior Auxiliary Grant Winners Pictured (left to right): Will Vollor (NEHS), Melody Clymer (WLES), Jennifer Boyette (NEES), and Randy Hodges (Superintendent) Coach Will Vollor will use the grant to start up a girl’s powerlifting team at Northeast High School. According to Vollor, “Activities and sports for girls is much needed. By offering more opportunities for physical activity, it will help to combat the increased risk of diabetes, obesity, and other health problems associated with inactivity. According to Melody Clymer, “Unlocking Learning by Breaking Out of the Box will enable WLE Quest classes to purchase 3 Breakout Edu kits and 3 Chromebooks. Each Breakout kit is a unique collection of resettable locks, boxes, and items for detective work. It allows for the facilitation of games where players use teamwork and critical thinking to solve a series of challenging puzzles in order to open a locked box.”  Jennifer Boyette’s grant was written for an Only One You rock garden.  The purpose of this project is to incorpo- rate reading and math skills into a school wide project that every child can benefit from.  All the students from grades K-4 will read the book, Only One You.  The book incorporates various character education skills and stresses that every child is unique and has something to contribute to the world.  The students will then paint their own unique rock inspired by the book to create an outdoor garden.  After the rocks have been placed, the garden will incorporate more reading and math skills.  The students will look for different attributes in the rocks and classify them accordingly.  Then, the students will create line graphs, bar graphs, charts, etc. with the infor- mation that they gathered from the garden.  The students will write about the wisdom and advice they gained from the book and how they can relate this to their every day life.
