LCSD Ends First Semester Strong
It is hard to believe the /irst semester of the 2017-2018 school
year is over. We could not have asked for a more positive, produc-
tive /irst half of the year. I am so proud of what I see happening in
each of our schools. Many Mississippi schools are at a crossroads
due to a variety of issues, both good and bad. What we have come
to realize is so much of what worries us in education is often out of
our control. When I see what classroom teachers and administra-
tors are doing with what they have been handed, I am truly amazed.
For example, the creativity and innovative strategies during our at-
tendance challenge have been outstanding. Even more touching is
when I see schools pulling together as a community to support oth-
Randy Hodges, Superintendent
ers in need; or, simply the willingness of a teacher
to go the extra mile to help a student experience success. The people are what set this district
apart. We continue to perform and excel in spite of the obstacles we face. As your superinten-
dent, I want to personally thank you for what you do. For the second semester, I challenge you
to continue to set high expectations for our students and push forward.
I also want to congratulate our teachers and administrator of the year. Misty Atkinson
(WLE) is our Elementary Teacher of the Year. Our Middle School Teacher of the Year is Kim Bar-
nes (SEMS). Our High School and overall District Teacher of the Year is Leigh Ann Smith
(CDHS). The Lauderdale County Administrator of the Year is Mr. Marcus Irby (SEMS). The Pin-
nacle Award was presented to Mrs. Elisa Baty (NE Test Coordinator) and the Support Staff of
the Year was given to Ella Myers (CO). Each of these individuals was recognized at our Decem-
ber board meeting. Again, congratulations to all of you!
I hope for each of you a safe and joyous holiday season!
